A private letter
to Gerry.
Bespoke Rwanda safari questions.
Quiet answers to the questions guests most often ask before composing their first letter to Kigali.
How do I book a private mountain gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda?
+
Every Gerry bespoke Rwanda safari includes private gorilla trekking permits, secured personally by Gerry directly with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) up to 12 months in advance. The permit fee (currently US$1,500 per trek) is included in your itinerary; we never resell third-party permits.
When is the best time of year for a bespoke Rwanda safari and gorilla trek?
+
Rwanda's two long dry seasons — June to mid-September and mid-December to February — offer the firmest forest trails and clearest views of the Virungas. The green seasons (March–May, October–November) bring lush bamboo, lower visitor numbers, and dramatic light, ideal for photographers and slower journeys.
How fit do I need to be to trek mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park?
+
Treks range from a gentle two-hour walk to a strenuous full-day climb above 3,000m. Gerry assigns each guest to a gorilla family suited to their fitness, and arranges porters, walking poles, and — when desired — sedan-chair carriers, so guests of every ability can have their hour with the silverbacks.
What does a bespoke Rwanda safari with Gerry Tours typically cost?
+
A private founder-composed Rwanda gorilla safari typically begins from US$4,500 per guest for a week and rises with helicopter transfers, suite-category lodges (Bisate, Singita Kwitonda, One&Only Gorilla's Nest), and longer multi-park itineraries. Final pricing is composed on inquiry.
Can children join a Rwanda gorilla trekking safari?
+
Mountain gorilla trekking is restricted to guests aged 15 and above by Rwanda Development Board policy. Younger families are warmly accommodated on companion programmes — Akagera Big Five game drives, Lake Kivu, Kigali culture and the Dian Fossey campus — designed alongside the parents' trek days.
How quickly will Gerry reply to my inquiry?
+
Gerry reads every inquiry personally from Kigali and replies within one working day with a draft itinerary — never a brochure. You will also receive an immediate email confirmation when your form is received.
